Analyzing Mismarked Ballots and Rejected Votes in Ranked Choice Voting

Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024 at 1:00PM ET

Across the US, Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) is being considered as an alternative to the single-mark ballots that are used for most offices. These ballots ask voters to rank the candidate in order of preference instead of choosing one preferred candidate.

Join us as Dr. Stephen Pettigrew and Dylan Radley characterize the different ways that voters can fill out these ballots, correctly and incorrectly. They'll reveal that nearly almost 1 in 20 voters make some kind of mistake on offices that are ranked, and these mistakes result in rates of uncounted ballots that are nearly 10x higher than non-ranked offices on the same ballot.

We'll delve into the evidence on how these errors influence elections and what this means for the integrity of our voting system. This is a unique chance to gain insights from top experts and engage in a vital conversation about the future of our democracy.
