Felix Sargent is a seasoned engineering leader who enjoys building high-performing teams and scalable, robust software. He programs in Scala, TypeScript, and Python with a deep appreciation for type safety, observability, and comprehensive testing. He is driven by a curiosity for how complex systems work, whether in software or in society. Outside of his professional life, he is passionate about improving democratic systems. As the former chair of the Center for Election Science, he dedicated years to advocating for better voting methods.

Guest Expert:

Clay Shentrup co-founded the Center for Election Science in 2011 and served on its Board of Directors for several years, helping to establish the organization's focus on advancing voting methods like Approval and Score Voting. In addition to his work in electoral reform, he has conducted research, analysis, and advocacy in economic policy, with a particular focus on optimal tax theory. His latest project isĀ Election by Jury. Mr. Shentrup brings a unique, systems-based perspective to these fields, informed by his career as a software engineer. He lives in Portland, Oregon, with his wife and two children.
